Police are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a car Friday night in West Haven, officials said.
West Haven police said they received several calls that a pedestrian was struck in the area of Derby Avenue and Central Avenue on Friday around 10:40 p.m., according to a press release. Upon arrival, police observed a man lying on the side of the road unresponsive. Paramedics also arrived and began life saving measures.
The man suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.
The operator of the vehicle who struck the pedestrian was traveling east on Derby Avenue at the time of the crash. The driver of the car remained on scene and cooperated with police, according to officials.
Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
