With a new Harry Potter adaptation on the cards, the casting directors have a huge challenge ahead of them. Considering how iconic the cast of the Harry Potter movies was, which involved the likes of Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliff, Ralph Fiennes, etc, the potential actors for the upcoming series will have some huge shoes to fill.
While it can’t be said for certain about what the creative heads at HBO have stored in mind for the original saga’s retelling, Daisy Ridley could be a great fit, given her love for the franchise.
Daisy Ridley on Potentially Filling Helena Bonham Carter’s Shoes in the Harry Potter Retelling
Being a huge Harry Potter fan, a few years back, the Star Wars star got the opportunity to relive her childhood through a Warner Bros. tour. Elaborating on her passion for the IP, Daisy Ridley recalled that she used to eagerly wait for the books to be delivered to her doorstep as a kid. She has also been vocal about her love for the films, and it’s safe to say, the actress could be a great addition to the new retelling.
With Ridley being a major franchise draw herself, the actress can be a perfect fit for the new adaptation, especially for the role of Bellatrix, originally played by Helena Bonham Carter. Reflecting on the prospect of potentially playing Bellatrix, the actress expressed that it’ll be terrifying, considering how high the bar has been set by the Fight Club star
You know what? We actually have this [casting] conversation at work. Everyone was like, ‘If you could, who would you be’, like everyone. And I think the bar is just set so high, honestly, by [the original cast]. And like, Bellatrix is the sort of right age thing [for me], but I was like, ‘How could anyone take what Helena Bonham Carter did?’ It will just presumably be terrifying for whoever it is that does it and incredible.
Although it’s hard to imagine anyone else than Carter in the shoes of Bellatrix, which can be said for most of the OG cast, following Ridley’s work in recent years, it’s safe to say she could be a great successor to Carter.
Daisy Ridley Is Looking Forward to the Harry Porter Retelling
While having Ridley on board for the new Harry Potter adaptation seems perfect on paper, given the Star Wars star’s love for the source material, the actress prefers enjoying the franchise from the outside.
Even though she is looking forward to the HBO reiteration, she can’t imagine being in the shoes of these iconic characters, who were once helmed by some of the most prolific talents in the business.
And actually, I’m looking forward to [the show], because we’ve been listening to the audio books, and there’s like, so much to play with. But the fear of taking on one of those roles, oh my god.
Although some fans are skeptical about the entire thing, the format of TV could work well for the seven books if done correctly, and following HBO’s track record with adaptations, it’s reasonable to be hopeful.
