Halftime: Ewers tosses 3 TDs, No. 5 Texas leads No. 25 Vanderbilt 21-10

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers completed 17 consecutive passes in the first half and threw three touchdowns to lift the No. 5 Longhorns to a 21-10 halftime lead over Vanderbilt on Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee.

Texas is giving the No. 25 Commodores a taste of their own medicine to a certain degree. Running six more plays and possessing the ball for 40 more seconds, Texas is averaging 7.1 yards per play to Vanderbilt’s 5.1. Texas’ 35 plays in the first half is pacing at its 70 plays per game average while Vanderbilt typically allows teams to run 63 plays per game.

After Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia scored on an 18-yard scramble to open the scoring, Ewers went to work with two touchdown throws to DeAndre Moore Jr. and another to Matthew Golden. Ewers hit Golden with a 3-yard pass that Golden corralled with one hand, and then found Moore for 27- and 25-yard scores to give the Longhorns a 21-7 lead with 5:04 left in the half.

Moore caught five passes for 92 yards with the two scores in the first half. Texas is 5-for-7 on third down.

Vanderbilt kicker Brock Taylor hit a 54-yard field goal as time expired in the half. The Commodores will receive the second-half kickoff.
