A young boy was critically injured when his ATV was struck in hit-and-run on Birmingham’s west side.
About 6:45 p.m. Saturday, there were shots fired in the 2400 block of Avenue D.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said a vehicle fleeing that scene struck at 12-year-old boy who was riding an ATV in the area.
The driver who hit the child fled on foot. Birmingham patrol officers took him into custody a few blocks from the scene.
The boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Fitzgerald said BPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit is working the investigation.
