One Piece Remake Can’t Rectify the Worst Mistake of Fish-Man Island Arc That Made Fans Doubt Eiichiro Oda’s Genius

The recent sad news of the One Piece anime going on a six-month hiatus was accompanied by the exciting news of the release of the remastered version of the popular Fish-Man Saga. This remake is being made because of the importance that the narrative of Fish-Man Island holds in the grand scheme of things in One Piece.

The remastered version will have a lot of changes and modifications that allegedly will enhance the experience of the intriguing storyline. Fans are hopeful that these changes will probably introduce some new intriguing details and also essentially take care of all the mistakes that were made earlier in the One Piece saga.

While the remastered version might rectify most of the mistakes, the one thing they cannot change is the biggest annoyance of the Fish-Man Island saga. This annoyance is none other than Shirahoshi, the most important character of the entire arc. Her infuriating nature was one of the reasons why the Fish-Man Island arc in One Piece got so much hate from fans.

The Frustrating Character of Shirahoshi in One Piece

Shirahoshi is the mermaid princess of the Ryugu Kingdom and the youngest child of King Neptune. However, these aspects don’t make her important to the One Piece story. Her actual significance comes from the fact that she is the current incarnation of the Ancient Weapon Poseidon. Thus, her fate has been bound along with the One Piece narrative till the final war.

Despite being so important in One Piece, fans have deemed her one of the most annoying characters of the series. Her fragile personality and frightened nature often result in her crying and feels infuriating to fans. Also, it in no way reflects her character’s significance as one of the three Ancient Weapons.

Although she is a teenager, she acts like a small child who is always complaining and relies on others for the smallest of things. This in a way degrades her importance in the central narrative and also became one of the major reasons why a few fans hated the Fish-Man Island saga.

One Piece Remake Won’t Be Able To Change Shirahoshi’s Character

The remastered version of the One Piece Fish-Man Island saga is scheduled to release on October 27, 2024, and it will run until March 30, 2025. All the major scenes of the storyline have been reshot, and new animation sequences have been added to the remastered version. The episode count has also been reduced from 58 to 21. Plus, it will get new opening and ending themes.

Although these big changes might help with other plotholes and issues with the saga, they won’t be able to change the annoying nature of Shirahoshi. At most, they might be able to reduce her crying and complaining to make the story fit within 21 episodes. But her personality will essentially remain the same, which is quite frustrating.

The majority of the fans don’t complain about Shirahoshi’s character because her annoyance is compensated by other enticing factors of the One Piece storyline. Still, others will have to wait and see how the new adaptations portray her character and connect it back to her main plot.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
