5-year-old boy in critical condition after falling off kayak in CT

A five-year-old boy is in critical condition after being pulled from the water after a kayaking accident on the Connecticut River on Saturday afternoon.

The Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police, Connecticut State Police, Haddam Fire and Haddam Volunteer Ambulance responded to a report of a boating accident involving a kayak with two occupants on the Connecticut River in the area of Depot Hill Road in Haddam, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The boy and an adult man were in a kayak at approximately 3:15 p.m. when they ended up in the water, DEEP officials said.

The boy was rushed to Middlesex Hospital and later transferred to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. The man refused medical attention, according to DEEP officials.

The incident is under investigation by EnCon police.
