It is a known fact that One Piece has unparalleled popularity. From its riveting storyline to its visuals, the series is a complete treat. But what’s more interesting is its ability to hook readers.
For almost two decades, the series has kept its freshness. With the remastered anime, the series is set to redo a major problem. And there’s more to it.
The new series points to a major flaw associated with the mangaka and the series. As fans respond to the new anime, it highlights a major conflict within the fandom. With fan responses and feedback, it underscores the age-old hypocrisy within viewers and readers.
One Piece fans respond to the remastered anime on X
One Piece is top-tier in many aspects especially, its storyline. This also applies to its stunning visuals and excellent animation. Like most Shonen series, it highlights friendships and camaraderie. There’s a caveat to that, however.
Despite its popularity, it isn’t exempt from criticism. Especially with the objectification of female characters. Most of it, however, has to do with a major flaw in the series.
With over 1000 chapters, the manga can be tedious for newbie readers. That, however, doesn’t deter its popularity and fanbase. Though it spotlights the biggest critique of the series. This also applies to the anime as well.
The new animated series, however, is a rebuttal of this criticism. Its focus on the Fishman Island Arc garnered a positive reception. But it drew flak from several users as well. With most fans pointing out the major flaw in the series.
On X several users called out ‘fans’ for their baseless criticism regarding the series’ pacing.
People calling the One Piece Remaster “rushed”, never thought I’d live to see the day where OP anime is called “rushed” pic.twitter.com/Uw1mdzvEvQ

When you skip pages from the Manga it’s fair to call it rushed lol pic.twitter.com/6Cft6XVx1o

One piece fans are never satisfied with anything. The pacing was good, and if they skipped some scenes, then it means they were not needed. You guys should be grateful because other animes don’t have this advantage look ad blur lock, for example.

Most mangaka grapples with pacing. This holds with the animators as well. In recent times, however, fans have gone overboard. This is clear with their age-old hypocrisy and relentless backlash.
Eiichiro Oda and the age-old conflict of hypocrisy
There’s no in-betweens with the pacing issue. And Eiichiro Oda isn’t exempt from this criticism. the mangaka has been critiqued for his saga-esque series.
The chapters run parallel with the episodes in the anime. Most anime fans have highlighted this issue. There is, however, a greater problem within the fanbase. And that is the ever-present hypocrisy.
With pacing or storyline, fans are quick to throw the mangaka under the bus. There’s also a massive incongruity between manga readers and anime viewers.
Mostly, the pacing issue is ever-present in most series. It isn’t often that one finds a well-paced series. There are exceptions to that as well. To put it simply, animators have to put up with the whims and fancies of the fanbase. Only to face flak by the end.
The major problem here isn’t the animator or the mangaka. It is the lack of sensitivity and abrasiveness that some fans have. While it most certainly is problematic, there are exceptions. The presence of sensible fans underscores the need to halt the pressure on animators and mangaka alike.
One Piece is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Viz Media.
