NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) — Police have arrested a man in connection to an October fatal shooting incident in Lawrence County.
A criminal complaint states Jason Jones Jr., 18, is charged with criminal homicide in connection to the Oct. 18 shooting death of Terry Micco during what police say was a robbery.
New Castle Police were called to the 500 block of Waldo Street just before 4 p.m. for reports of a man with a gunshot wound, identified as Micco. Before he was transported to the hospital, where he later died due to his injuries, an affidavit of probable cause states he told officers the suspect was wearing a blue hoodie.
A witness told police he saw two men talking inside a home, was unable to hear the nature of the conversation, but then heard three gunshots and went to see what happened. The witness told police he found Micco bleeding on the ground and saw two men running away.
Police were able to collect video evidence from a nearby home which the affidavit states showed two men pass in front of the home, including a man in a blue hoodie, as well as another man on the phone, and the video’s audio picked up the phrase “shoot him.”
Police say the murder was likely a result of a drug-related robbery, and the affidavit states suspected narcotics, cash and a cell phone were found inside Micco’s truck.
Through investigation, police were able to determine the identities of the two involved men. On Monday, officers with the Sharon Police Department reported they had Jones Jr. in custody for an unrelated incident.
In an interview with police, the affidavit states Jones Jr. went to meet at the home where Micco was shot because the other suspect said Micco “had bricks” — a term for drugs.
Jones Jr. stated he and the other suspect went inside to talk to Micco in the kitchen, where he noticed other people present and a gun, telling officers he “felt like he had to defend himself.”
The affidavit states Jones Jr. did not observe Micco pulling the gun out, pointing it at him nor anyone else.
Jones Jr. told police that when Micco was walking out of the back door, Jones Jr. shot him three times. He told police the other suspect “got some drugs off of Micco” but he did not see exactly what he took.
The affidavit states Jones Jr. and the other suspect ran away on foot until they were picked up by the second suspect’s girlfriend.
Jones Jr. appeared in court Tuesday morning. He is set to return later this month. For the time, he is being held in Lawrence County Jail without bond.
The other mentioned suspect has not been charged at the time of this report and therefore will remain unnamed until charges are filed.
