CT man killed after vehicle leaves road, strikes tree in Willington

A Norwich man was killed when the vehicle he was driving left the road and struck a tree in Willington on Sunday.

Troopers responded to a report of the crash just before 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Moose Meadow Road and found that a 1992 Chevrolet Caprice had hit a tree, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police believe the driver, 80-year-old Paul Butcher of the Taftville section of Norwich, was heading west on Turnpike Road when he went off the left side of the road and hit a tree. He was taken in an ambulance to Rockville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.

Any potential witnesses have been asked to contact Trooper Nicholas Desrosiers at 860-896-3200, ext. 8008, or [email protected].
