(NEXSTAR) — Love “Jeopardy!” and wish you could play it from the comfort of your favorite bar? You may soon have the chance — with an added opportunity to appear on television during actual “Jeopardy!”
Next year, “Jeopardy!” Bar League will launch nationally, bringing “America’s Favorite Quiz Show” to, well, bars. The new experience comes thanks to a partnership between Sony Pictures Television, bar trivia operator Geeks Who Drink, and interactive entertainment technology company TimePlay.
Like other bar trivia events, teams will be able to “engage with the game in real time, using their mobile devices to respond to clues, track their scores, and see live leaderboards within their bar,” Sony said in a Monday press release.
“Jeopardy!” Bar League will also include actual clues and categories from the show.
“Bringing ‘Jeopardy!’ out of the studio and into the real world is a major focus for us at the show,” said “Jeopardy!” Executive Producer Michael Davies. “We already know that many people, including me, watch and play along with our show in bars, and we know that many of our contestants come from the thriving culture of bar trivia, so it seemed only natural for us to combine these elements into ‘Jeopardy!’ Bar League.”
The winnings of ‘Jeopardy!’ Bar League are likely vastly different from the prize of your local trivia night. According to Monday’s press release, “winners of future tournaments will have the opportunity to qualify to become contestants on the televised version of ‘Jeopardy!'”
Next month, a “limited first-run” of “Jeopardy!” Bar League will be held as a way to round out the 60th anniversary of the show, which first appeared on air on March 30, 1964 (you may want to remember that, in case you come face to face with a “History of ‘Jeopardy!'” category).
Where the limited run will be available has not yet been released.
According to information available on the “Jeopardy!” Bar League website, teams of one to six players will be allowed to participate in what will be a weekly event.
