HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — After starting November one of the warmest on record, we are about to see some of the coldest air in months. Temperatures are forecast to remain seasonable for this time of year before we see a large shift in the temperatures late next week.
Above the surface, an upper-level ridge in the jet stream will support seasonable temperatures and sunshine to the week. A shift in the weather pattern will support significant changes late in the week.
At this vantage point, a strong upper-level low will develop in Canada, and then race southward towards the United States. This low will track well north of the Tennessee Valley, as it passes through the Great Lakes Region. As this happens a trough will dig into the jet stream pushing the ridge eastward.
As the upper-level trough is pushing eastward a strong cold front will be at the surface. The combination of the two will support the development of rain and thunderstorms along the front. Stick with the Weather Authority for the latest timing of rainfall next week.
Behind the front, you will quickly notice a drastic change in the temperatures. Arctic cold air will surge southward leading to some of the coldest temperatures since March.

Ahead of the cold snap next week, you can make sure you have a winter weather kit prepared for both your home and vehicle. Have a blanket, extra supplies, a flashlight, and a full tank of gas in your car.
When you head outside make sure you are bundled up with a hat, gloves, and a thick coat. Don’t forget your pets. Make sure they have a warm place to sleep as temperatures drop below freezing.
