Youngsters were chased down by riot cops after launching fireworks at motors and setting wheelie bins on fire.

But more footage from the Niddrie area last night shows youths throwing glass bottles at officers.

In the clip, two yobs dressed in all black take a glass recycling bin and plonk it in the middle of the street.

The pair then take it in turns to start launching bottles at the officers, who have their shields up, and shout abuse at them.

A third then gets involved in the chaos and the three of them start lobbing bottles at police.

The chaotic scenes continued throughout the night, and a police helicopter was shining its spotlight down onto the area.

Elsewhere in the area, yobs started throwing fireworks at cops.

And when the police left the scene, the barrage continued and youths then started throwing fireworks in the direction of members of the public.

A rampaging gang also “targeted” a petrol station with fireworks and left a blaze in their wake on Edinburgh’s Calder Road.

Ugly scenes in Sighthill showed the gang of youths target the garage by aiming fireworks towards the forecourt.

Dark smoke is seen pluming from the area in front of the station.

Projectiles were also fired at cars on the street with road signs and railing being thrown in the way of traffic.

And in Glasgow, terrified locals in Pollokshields described the area as a war zone with louts recklessly shooting fireworks at vehicles.

More than 30 hooded teens ran rampant in the area where a council blunder meant a pyro restriction zone was not in place.

Gangs of youths were spotted placing lit rockets on the road and firing them into moving traffic.

More than a dozen police officers shut off Herriet Street as firefighters put out a blaze which engulfed a grey Volkswagen Golf.

Panicked drivers honked their horns as fireworks exploded in front of their motors.

One shopkeeper, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s the same every year.

“It’s lawless, like a war zone.

“It’s a miracle nobody has been killed.”
