Mobile County jail inmate-on-inmate assault suspect to be charged with murder after victim off life support

Mobile County jail inmate-on-inmate assault suspect to be charged with murder after victim off life support

The victim of a brutal inmate-on-inmate assault late last month in Mobile County has been taken off life support, authorities said Monday.

Harry McClure, 59, was still alive as of Monday afternoon after his family took him off life support Sunday but is “not expected to survive,” according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

McClure was allegedly beaten by fellow inmate Justin Miles, 44, on Aug. 20.

Surveillance video allegedly showed Miles stomping and kicking McClure’s head while McClure was lying on a mat, the sheriff’s office said. Witnesses told investigators the attack was unprovoked.

McClure was taken to the medical wedge at Mobile County Metro Jail before being transported to a local hospital.

After he was admitted to the hospital, it was determined Miles suffered multiple intracranial hemorrhages and was put on life support.

Miles was initially charged with second-degree assault but is expected to be charged with murder when McClure dies.
