Pair arrested as two Scots officers injured in ‘police attack’ after pulling car over

A MAN and woman have been arrested after two cops were injured.

The alleged incident happened after officers pulled over a car in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, this afternoon.

The motor was stopped around 1pm on the town’s Sikeside Street.

Police later arrested a man, aged 21, and a 22-year-old woman.

They have been arrested over allegedly assaulting police and claims of disorder.

Two cops have been treated for minor injuries and did not need hospital treatment.

Police are continuing to carry out enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1pm on Friday, 13 September, 2024, officers stopped a car on Sikeside Street, Coatbridge.

“A 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with police assault and disorder offences and enquiries are ongoing.

“Two officers suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.”

Elsewhere in Lanarkshire, a man who was caught with a gun and bullets after being involved in a drive-by shooting has been locked up.

Steven McGarry was stopped by police driving an Audi Q5 near Rangers’ Ibrox Stadium in January.

The 37-year-old’s two-bedroom home in Paisley, Renfrewshire, was then searched by police.

Officers went on to uncover the weapon and 15 rounds of ammunition hidden inside an Under Armour sports bag in a cupboard.
