A teen drowned at Sportsman Park in Limestone County on Friday after diving into the water to retrieve his cellphone.
Gustavo Ernesto Ordonez Grave, 17, was at the park with his family when he dropped his phone in the water and dove in to get it, according to Coroner Mike West.
“The current was real rough because of all the rain we’ve had, and he didn’t come back up,” said West.
West said there were no signs of trauma that would have indicated Grave hit his head before drowning.
According to West, law enforcement was contacted at 3:30 p.m. and Grave’s body was found at 7:02 p.m.
