Country music star reveals she was spit on, shares what she did next

Lainey Wilson was recently asked if she had a “quit” story, something that happened that made the country music singer call it a career.

In an interview with “Taste if Country,” Wilson shared a fan spit on her while she was performing.

“Last year when we were on our headlinin’ tour, somebody spit on me, on stage,” she revealed, “…and then…I thought about gettin’ down there and findin’ whoever it was, but I didn’t. I kept rolling.”

The 2024 CMA Entertainer of the Year nominee realized, she said, there are just nasty people in the world.

“First of all, I was like, ‘Why in the world would you buy a ticket and then go spit on somebody?’ she said. “There’s some mean people in the world. Also, they could have just been drunk and just being silly.”

Wilson grew up on a farm in rural Baskin, Louisiana. As a teenager, she worked as a Hannah Montana impersonator; when she got to Nashville in early adulthood, she lived in a camper trailer and hit countless open mic nights, trying to make it in Music City.

It paid off, but it took time, really launching with the release of her 2020 single, “Things a Man Oughta Know,” and her last album, 2022′s “Bell Bottom Country” — a rollicking country-rock record that encompasses Wilson’s unique “country with a flare” attitude.
