CT’s Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana names its fall special pizza

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana has decided to kick off the celebration of National Pizza Month with its fall special, the “Quattro Formaggio,” according to a spokesperson.

The revelation of the special pizza comes with  National Pizza Month just around the corner, in October, the spokesperson said. (In New Haven it’s apizza, and you know you know how to pronounce it by now))

The “Quattro Formaggio,” (and yes, that’s an Italian phrase that means “four cheese”) will be available from Sep. 23 through the end of the year at all 17 locations, the spokesperson shared.

“The Quattro Formaggio will feature a delectable blend of crushed Italian tomatoes and four cheeses including mozzarella, asiago, ricotta and Pecorino Romano,” the spokesperson said. “Guests can also enjoy a special edition of the Quattro Formaggio, available exclusively at Frank Pepe’s original Wooster Street location in New Haven.”

The spokesperson noted that the pizza was “crafted by family members of Frank Pepe,” and is “finished with a touch of imported olive oil, all atop the pizza’s signature crispy yet chewy, slightly charred crust. For those looking to add even more depth of flavor to their pizza, meatballs, basil and garlic are highly recommended additions.”

The pie that will only be available in New Haven is “an ode to the original Quattro Formaggio, which was available at Frank Pepe’s from 2016 to 2019,” and features an original recipe by Francis Pepe, grandson of Frank Pepe. That pie “includes crushed Italian tomatoes, mozzarella, asiago and Pecorino Romano with the addition of basil, and goat cheese in place of the original Quattro Formaggio’s ricotta. ”

“It’s heartwarming to see how our family’s traditions continue to evolve while staying true to the flavors our guests keep coming back for,” said Jennifer Bimonte-Kelly, granddaughter of Frank Pepe, in a statement. “The Quattro Formaggio is a testament to our legacy and tradition, blending nostalgic comfort with a touch of innovation. It’s made with the same dough recipe my grandfather started with in 1925.”

Frank Pepe’s has 17 locations in Connecticut, South Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York. For more information and store locations:  pepespizza.com.
