CT man arrested for driving over 120 mph on I-91, state police say

A man was arrested driving nearly twice the speed limit on Interstate 91 in the early morning hours in Wethersfield on Wednesday, state police said.

A trooper got onto I-91 South shortly after 3 a.m. and spotted a gray Toyota in the left lane going very quickly and failing to stay in one lane, according to Connecticut State Police.

The trooper caught up to the motorist and clocked it going more than 120 mph in a 65 mph zone, state police said.

According to state police, the driver pulled over on the right shoulder when the trooper activated the cruiser’s lights and siren. The driver was identified as 45-year-old Troy O. Blanchard of Hartford, state police said.

Blanchard was compliant when asked to turn the vehicle off and hand over the keys, which a trooper asked him to do out of concerns that he could flee, state police said. According to state police, Blanchard said he was trying to get to work and did not know his driving was reckless.

Blanchard was arrested on charges of reckless driving and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Oct. 4.
