Berlin faces No. 1 Windsor

Berlin faces No. 1 Windsor

The high school football regular season is winding down, and we find ourselves in Week 10 with some important games still to come.

Windsor, top-ranked in the Courant’s state coaches poll, will host Berlin, which has won five straight after returning some key players who were injured. Cromwell/Portland, in a similar trajectory, will try to knock off unbeaten Rockville. Obviously, Windsor and Rockville would like to head into the state tournament with a high seed and their unbeaten streaks intact.

Here are some games to watch this weekend:

Berlin (6-2) at Windsor (8-0), Friday, 6:30 p.m.: Berlin is the latest to take a shot at the No. 1 team in the state in this CCC Tier II game. Quarterback AJ Robinson passed for almost 300 yards against Platt last week with two touchdowns and has passed for over 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Shaun Adams had three touchdowns in the win over Platt. The only team who has come close to beating Windsor was Darien and even then, Windsor was missing Robinson and other key players, so that says a lot about the Warriors. Berlin is currently ranked fifth in Class M so a win here would give the Redcoats a big boost in the playoff rankings. Cody Puzio leads the team in rushing with 431 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Cromwell/Portland (7-1) at Rockville (7-0), Friday, 6:30 p.m.: Cromwell’s only loss came to Capital Prep, 18-12, on Sept. 27 and the Panthers have been cruising along since. Brady Ramsdell over 1,100 yards and seven touchdowns and sophomore Kayden Boland has emerged as a rushing threat (766 yards, 10 touchdowns) for the Rams, who are receiving votes in the Courant’s poll.

Rockville’s defense has been solid, led by Jonathan Kasamba (62 tackles, 11 sacks) and the most points the Rams have given up in a game was 21 to Granby/Canton back on Sept. 27. Cromwell is ranked third in Class S with two games left; Rockville is ranked third in Class M with three games left so this is an important game for playoff seeding for both teams.

Manchester (5-3) at New Britain (7-1), Friday, 7 p.m.: The Hurricanes will try to bounce back from their first loss, 49-21, to Glastonbury last week, in this CCC Tier I game. New Britain is the fifth-ranked team in Class LL; Manchester is the eighth and last team to qualify currently with two games to go in the season.
