In 2016, Garner was one of the presenters and took the stage alongside Benicio del Toro.
Her black Versace gown caught the eyes of many and Jimmy Fallon brought up her glammed-up look at the Oscars during The Tonight Show episode that aired shortly after. Garner shared that the custom-made dress was challenging to wear, joking that her organs were moved in the process. Pointing at her waist in the photo, Garner joked that she didn’t have one in real life anymore.
She shocked Fallon when she shared that two men came with screw guns and screwed her into a metal corset. However, she admitted that she was exaggerating a bit but added that she had to wear a metal corset and it did take two Italian men to fit her into the corset. She shared that her ribs were compressed in the dress. Garner shared on The Tonight Show:
There are basically two men who come in with screwguns, and they screwed me into a metal corset—this isn’t true, but it was a metal corset and it did take two Italian people. The next thing you know, my ribs were compressed.
She then went into details about her bodysuit, which almost gave Fallon secondhand embarrassment. She shared that the bodysuit was like “the bottom of a leotard” but it felt more like a “thong” to the Elektra actress. This bodysuit detail becomes important in the latter part of her story.
Garner shared that she went to the ceremony with one of her best girlfriends. During the ceremony, she shared that she started to get a panic attack. She shared, “Suddenly, my ribs started to get a panic attack. I was having a muscle spasm. Everything [inside my body] started to freak out.” She wanted to stand up, but her friend stopped her saying that people would think she was protesting like Kanye West.

Jennifer Garner went backstage during a commercial break with her friend to compose herself. However, she encountered her next problem when she needed to use the restroom. Jimmy Fallon shared that he couldn’t relate to Garner’s problem as a man and he shared that Garner’s solution to the problem was not something he would consider.
Garner enlisted the help of her friend, who would pull her dress up as she entered the stall in the bathroom. She faced another problem with the bodysuit that she talked about earlier. She shared with Fallon:
The connection of the bodysuit, because it had a hook and eye situation, was in an intimate position. I couldn’t reach it. So I told my friend, ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I think you’ll have to get this.’
Garner further added that her friend gave a “good college try” and helped her out. It appeared that Garner’s most Googled Oscar 2016 gown, according to THR, was a nightmare to wear.
