Jacob Elordi might have garnered fans’ and critics attention as the bad boy Noah Flynn in The Kissing Booth, but he sure has escaped the label with his brilliant performances, one project after another. Despite reprising his role in the movie’s sequel and threequel, Elordi made it known he wasn’t just an actor made for romantic comedies, but one with an incredible acting range.

His portrayal of Nate Jacobs in Euphoria further added to his charm, propelling him to real success despite earlier being ‘discovered’ in The Kissing Booth movies. His acting as the troubled high school football player was a pivotal moment for him and a true breakout role.

Despite hitting a few roadblocks on the way and starring in underwhelming projects, he bounced back with his exceptional portrayal of Elvis Presley in Priscilla and his role in Saltburn, which earned him a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role nomination.

But these roles are just the beginning of his potentially blockbuster career, for Elordi is slated to appear in several movies and series across diverse genres. For starters, he will reprise his role in Euphoria season 3, and star in a miniseries adaptation of the novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North. Furthermore, he played the younger version of Richard Gere’s character in the drama film Oh, Canada, which is yet to be released after its world premiere in May.

Apart from this, Elordi recently starred in the drama film On Swift Horses, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and will be seen next as Heathcliffe in the upcoming adaptation of the classic Wuthering Heights and as Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s Dr. Frankenstein.

It is shocking to see how different Jacob Elordi and Tom Holland‘s career trajectories have been. A child actor, Holland got his big break when he took over the role of the beloved web-slinger, Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite achieving a significant fan following and fame, his career outside of the superhero verse isn’t much to be accounted for.

While Elordi went on from a struggling actor to one of the top talents of our times, Holland, despite his acting range and experience, has failed to establish himself as an actor worthy of a more serious role. Many of his films outside the MCU, like Chaos Walking, Uncharted, Cherry, The Devil All the Time, etc. have failed to gain significant traction or receive the critical acclaim that might match his abilities.

Even after having explored a range of genres like crime thrillers, psychological stories, and drama, Holland fails to match the success Elordi has achieved as an ‘actor’. In Cherry, he played a war veteran grappling with PTSD and addiction, a gritty and emotional role that required intense depth. However, the film failed to resonate widely with audiences or critics. Similarly, his performance in The Devil All the Time showcased his ability to dive into darker material, but again, the movie didn’t make the cultural impact many expected.

Despite many of his projects underperforming at the box office and failing to gain positive reviews from critics, Holland has received praise for his acting talent. Even though his choices might be deliberate, taken in his eagerness to move past his superhero persona, the Marvel star is still known best as Spider-Man, a box he finds hard to escape from.

Next set to star in Spider-Man 4 and many more MCU projects potentially, only time will tell whether Tom Holland will ever be able to reach the level of success Jacob Elordi has as an actor or if will he forever be known as the actor who portrayed Spider-Man.
