Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover is an extremely popular anime/manga series with a gripping plot. Its dual protagonists, Asta and Yuno, have gone through many character development arcs and have become fan favorites. While Asta’s Anti-Magic is comparably easy to understand, the same cannot be said about Yuno’s history.
Yuno has an extremely complicated backstory and Yuki Tabata has hinted at it little by little as Black Clover continued serialization. But some elements in it are still confusing to fans, and rightfully so.
Yuno’s History in Black Clover is too Coincidental to be Believable
Both Yuno and Asta were introduced as orphans in Black Clover, who were left under the care of a church in Hage. However, Yuno was actually born to Loyce and Ciel of the House of Grinberryall. He thus belongs to the royal family of the Spade Kingdom. This part of Yuno’s origin story is believable.
However, there are additional details of Yuno that fans find hard to believe. He is also the reincarnated elf vessel of the soul of Licht and Tetia’s son. As a result, he inherited wind magic from the elf’s soul as well as his affinity towards weapons due to Licht’s sword magic.
But combining the two of them together makes it a bit too unreal. Yuno, being an orphaned royal who was secretly taken to the Clover Kingdom as well as being a reincarnated elf vessel, makes some fans raise an eyebrow at the coincidence.
Additionally, Yuno is also accompanied by Sylph, the spirit of the wind. She chose to serve Yuno after he found her scroll in a dungeon. She uses her magic to generate and manipulate wind. Yuno can combine his Star Magic with Sylph’s Wind Spirit Magic to create Union Magic, an extremely powerful technique.
Yuki Tabata Needs to Give an Explanation for Yuno’s Origin
Yuki Tabata has definitely created unique characters like Asta and Yuno. However, in order to make Yuno special, he has loaded him with powers and special lineage. A Reddit post questions why it was possible for an elf spirit to reside in Yuno’s body when a majority of them chose Clover Kingdom candidates.
Additionally, the elf chose a human who was born into Spade Kingdom royalty only to grow up in the Clover Kingdom. While another elf, Fana, was reincarnated into the human host, Fana, in the Diamond Kingdom, not many such exceptions have been found in the series.
One possible explanation is that Yuno’s affinity towards mana and magic might have attracted the elf’s soul. Yuno has been established to be a powerful mage and was always a magic prodigy. It is possible that the elf’s soul was attracted to him due to his abilities and aura despite him not residing in the Clover Kingdom.
