Timbaland is the Only Real G Left in Hollywood after What He Did for OneRepublic When ‘Apologize’ Was Released

With the recent news of scandals and potential abusers rampant in the music industry, fans needed some good news. A viral video of OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder praising Timbaland has given some hope to music fans. Not all is lost because one of the most influential figures in the musical sphere has everyone’s best interests in his heart.

Tedder highlighted the music producer’s generosity in an old video, referencing the incident when the latter released a remix of their song. Apologize featured on his 2006 album, Shock Value which was a remix version of the band’s original song. Instead of demanding his rights, Timbaland refused to publish the son, to honor the band’s ownership, surprising Tedder.

Not all bad fishes in the sea: The generous musician

Timbaland or Timothy Zachery Mosley is an American record producer, rapper, and singer. The music producer has collaborated with talented artists like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Adele, Justin Timberlake, and many more.

However, along with producing hits for other artists Timbaland also experimented on albums of his own. In 2006 his album Shock Value featured a single which went on to increase another band’s fame.

According to PEOPLE, the song in question Apologize, was released by OneRepublic on MySpace, and it became a hit online. But it was Timbaland’s 2007 remix version that put the song and the band on the maps. The rapper-producer could have asked for his rights instead he refused publishing.

The manager said, “Tim didn’t want to take any publishing buddy. It’s your song you wrote it. He’s not trying to take food off your table.”

In a 2007 interview with The Sunday Project (via Instagram) Ryan Tedder spoke about the incident. The band’s vocalist and co-founder revealed that he was astonished when the big-time producer brushed away his rights.

One moment of kindness goes a long way

The bold and kind decision moved not only the singer but also fans on social media. Amidst news of people back-stabbing each other in order to succeed, this anecdote of a rare moment of generosity invoked hope.

He could have taken two thirds of publishing if he wanted to. He had all the leverage in the world and he said, “I didn’t write the song. I’m not taking any publishing.”

Tedder spoke about Timbaland’s good nature during several interviews, highlighting just how much the instance impacted him. He once claimed in a video that the latter was the best producer in the music industry.

People’s like, “Who’s the best producer?” And my thought is Tim. When he’s on, he’s better than anybody period.

The music producer’s lack of greed and ambition to help other artists succeed is a rare gem in the industry. Timbaland’s advice and tricks also helped Tedder become the influential singer-songwriter he is at present.
