THE GLACIER Hotel in Italy claims to be the highest in Europe, with guests only able to reach its dizzying heights on a cable car.
Located near Maso Corto, one of the highest villages in Italy, the hotel welcomes guests throughout the year.
Perched on top of a glacier at 3,212m above sea level, the Glacier Hotel makes for an interesting stay.
Hotel guests will need to get to Maso Corto where they can board the Val Senales cable car.
Even before guests have checked into their rooms, they’ll be able to take in the “exhilarating views”of the mountain landscape.
Right outside the hotel lies the ski slope and high-alpine hiking trails for the hardiest of guests.
The hotel hosts the highest Finnish sauna in Europe with a steam bath and an infrared cabin.
There are several different room options available to book, including a panorama-view double room, a family suite and a triple room.
Each of the rooms has been furnished in an Alpine style with spruce wood.
There’s also an on-site restaurant serving Tyrolean specialties made from local ingredients.
The restaurant has enough space for 300 guests, with room for a further 60 on the sun terrace.
Other nearby attractions include the Iceman Ötzi Peak viewing platform on the Grawand summit and the art installation Our Glacial Perspectives on the Grawand ridge.
It seems like the Glacier Hotel is a bit of a hidden gem with fewer than one hundred views on TripAdvisor.
One person wrote: “This is an awesome experience. Considering the logistics involved, the food they produce is amazing, good South Tyrol produce including some good wine and grapes. The rooms are nice and the skiing is excellent.”
Another person added: “I was there during my holiday in this region. It was beautiful, with great landscapes, sunrises and sunsets.”
A third person wrote: “An exhilarating stay in the highest hotel in Europe.”
Sun Online Travel have found overnight stays at the Glacier Hotel from £166 per room in November.
Bolzano Airport is the closest airport to the Glacier Hotel.
Italian airline Sky Alps operates direct flights between London Gatwick Airport and Bolzano Airport throughout the ski season, with one-way fares from £160 per person.
From Bolzano Airport, it’s an hour’s drive to the Glacier Hotel.
Cheaper flights operate from the UK to Verona Airport and Venice Airport – although these airports are a four-hour drive from the high-altitude hotel.
