Georgia’s Kirby Smart on Alabama: ‘We have no answer for (Jalen) Milroe’

Kirby Smart saw what you saw in the first half Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Alabama, behind Jalen Milroe, jumped out to a 30-6 lead behind Jalen Milroe. The quarterback has thrown for 106 yards on nine carries for two touchdowns. He has thrown for 199 yards and another score.

“The most important thing is we need to get some stops,” the Georgia coach said at halftime. “They’ve been really explosive tonight. We have no answer for Milroe. He’s a great athlete, phenomenal athlete. We struggled to tackles him. We don’t have the edges. They have done a nice job of throwing with him out of empty. That’s been new. We have to get some stops.”

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said Milroe is making the most of opportunities.

“He’s staying within himself,” he said at halftime. “We’re putting him in good spots, guys are blocking for him. … He’s really progressed, and you’re seeing him do what we are asking him to do. He’s comfortable doing it right now.”

The Tide has rolled up 355 yards to Georgia’s 153, but Smart – a former Alabama defensive coordinator, said the Bulldogs offense isn’t OK.

“Our offense hasn’t been bad,” he said. “We just can’t get the offense on the field. We have to stop him and turning the ball over.”

DeBoer added both the Alabama offense and defense are being aggressive and taking advantage of opportunities.
