Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271 ahead

Fans from all over the world had high hopes for this chapter, but Gege Akutami made sure that those hopes would be crushed under his heel. Of course, once again, a Gojo flashback is present, which all but proves Akutami’s hatred towards him even more.

Gege Akutami‘s hatred for Gojo is apparent, and the entire Jujutsu Kaisen fandom knows about the author’s petty treatment of the character. Throughout the series’ beginning, Akutami built an overpowered character who has been loved by fans worldwide. However, he stashed the character away for chapter upon chapter, and when Gojo did emerge, Akutami made sure to give fans lots of hope before disposing of him.

Even after Gojo’s death, Akutami kept giving hints at Gojo’s return, which would make fans hopeful, only for those hopes to be crushed and rebuilt and crushed again. In the final chapter, you get one last flashback of Gojo in which he tries to talk about his dreams and aspirations, but even that goes unexplored.

Just after Gojo reveals that he is a person too, aside from his abilities to kill, the topic is sidetracked to Yuji. Readers never get to know what Gojo’s dreams were because, in the very next scene, he has to hype up Yuji by saying that he has high hopes for the teen.

In the scene, Gojo himself expressed that he did not want to be forgotten; however, his death was barely acknowledged in the manga. It seems like Gege Akutami had always intended to use Gojo as nothing more than a weapon, and till the very last moment, he did not show any mercy toward the character.

Why Fans Hate the Ending of Jujutsu Kaisen: Chapter 271

Fans were direly hoping for the announcement of a second part of Jujutsu Kaisen, but the last chapter showed no such indication, which left fans wondering if all the buildup in the last chapter was simply unnecessary drama that was used to keep the audience engaged till the end. The ending also seemed extremely rushed.

The final chapter of the manga itself was unsatisfactory on many levels. Yuji’s domain name was never revealed and the conclusion to the Sukuna fight was extremely rushed. Megumi appeared again, but there was no visible development in him. Nobara appeared out of nowhere and she was used in the final chapters just for the shock value.

The worst part of it all is that Gojo’s death was simply never acknowledged in the series. Yuta took over Gojo’s body and discarded it after use, but the characters do not talk about such a huge loss at length. Not even a burial of Gojo’s body was shown in the series. Sukuna, the overarching villain of Jujutsu Kaisen, never received a backstory. The King of the Curses still remains a mystery.

Jujutsu Kaisen manga is available to read on Viz Media.
