My son’s name is so unique he’ll never have the same as someone else – but mean trolls say it’s ‘ridiculous’ & ‘stupid’

A WOMAN has revealed that she has given her baby a name that’s so unique, he’ll never have the same moniker as someone else.

Brooklyn Franklin, a 24-year-old NICU nurse from the US, explained that she ‘made up’ a moniker for her eight-month-old baby boy.

Posting on social media, Brooklyn shared an adorable video of her and her young son whilst sitting in the car.

The blonde-haired beauty, who is in her ‘first time mum era’ held her son and confirmed that his name is Bekan.

As the fashionista laughed and joked with her adorable baby, she wrote: “How it feels knowing my son will never have the same name as someone else growing up.”

She then added: “And that’s on a made up name!”

The name Bekan, from Old Irish Beccán, translates to “small”.

Whilst Bekan is not a very common name, it is used in Norway.

Research claims that the masculine moniker Bekan signifies someone who desires love and independence.

The name relates to someone that is generous, kinderheated and philanthropic, as well as bold, functional and spiritual.

Despite this, those named Bekan can also be perhaps impulsive, ill-tempered, rebellious and impatient at times too.

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @brooklynfranklinn, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly gone viral and has since racked up five million views.

But social media users were left stunned by the youngster’s name.

Whilst some thought it was ‘ridiculous’ and ‘stupid’, others pointed out that it isn’t as unique as Brooklyn might think.

How do you pronounce it cause I keep saying bacon…

One person said: “What kind of name is Bekan. Poor kid.”

Another added: “Can’t wait to take some of these ridiculous terrible names back to the FB group I’m in. Reazyn, Bekan, Slayte… yikes.”

The struggle of choosing a baby name

CHLOE Morgan, a Senior Writer at Fabulous, has revealed her dilemma on choosing a baby name…

At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me in the past few months (minus the insomnia and countless night-time wee breaks!) has been trying to decide on a baby name.

The dilemmas are endless…

My partner and I went for a private scan to find out the gender as early as we could – partly due to the fact we thought it would make baby naming so much easier because we’d only have to come up with a list of names for one gender rather than two.

How wrong we were…

I was absolutely thrilled to be told I was expecting the baby girl I’d already dreamed of, but being one of the last of my friends to fall pregnant, I’ve had countless conversations over the years with excited pals discussing their top baby names…something which I wish I could go back in time and un-hear.

With each friend mentioning at least 10 possible monikers, I can’t help but feel like several are now a no-go even though I know it’s something that none of them would mind in the slightest – it’s a total me problem!

The debate comes up time and time again on social media forums – can you choose the same name that was a “potential” for a friend’s baby?

It’s a very divisive topic and opinions are always mixed…and I don’t want to be THAT person.

While some will argue there’s thousands of other names out there to choose from, others will say you need to choose YOUR favourite…after all, there’s no guarantee that person will even have another baby.

Then there’s also the issue of finding a name you adore…only to research it online and read one negative comment amongst hundreds of positives that you just can’t shake off.

I made that very mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won’t reveal it because I don’t want to ruin it for others!) …only to see someone point out that it constantly gets autocorrected on a phone to something rather rude instead.

So, back to the drawing board we went..

Just five weeks to go and it looks like our little one is going to be known as ‘baby gal’ for a little while longer!

A third commented: “So he has a stupid a** name is what you are saying.”

Meanwhile, someone else asked: “How do you pronounce it cause I keep saying bacon…”

In response, Brooklyn confirmed: “Beck an!”

From these comments, I reckon Bekan is more common than you thought

At the same time, one person wrote: “Bekan is kinda like Beckham, I think it’s fine.”

To this, Brooklyn explained: “Yes, that was the name I loved but wanted to be more unique.”

Banned Names in the UK

The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles, or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.

  • Hitler
  • Monkey
  • Cyanide
  • Martian
  • Akuma
  • Chow Tow
  • Rogue

Despite this, many claimed that they know other children with the name Bekan.

One mother confessed: “OMG. My son’s name is Bekan!!! That’s wild. I’ve never seen another one.”

A second chimed in: “My baby’s name is Bekan and my uncle’s kid just got this name.”
