A man found dead and decomposing in east Birmingham was shot, authorities announced Monday.
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the victim was a 40-year-old Black male who lived in Birmingham. His name is being withheld because authorities have not yet been able to locate and notify his family.
The discovery was made about 8:15 a.m. Thursday by a person walking in the 3000 block of Jefferson State Parkway.
The body was found in a wooded area. The passerby flagged down a Jefferson County deputy who notified Birmingham police.
Initially the man’s death was unclassified, but an autopsy showed he was the victim of a homicide.
