The 2024 North Super Regional volleyball tournament is set to move to the Finley Center in Hoover, the Alabama High School Athletic Association announced on Monday.
This agreement to move the event between the AHSAA, the City of Hoover and the Finley Center is only for 2024, with dates still set for Oct. 23-25.
“In July, I became aware that 2023 was the last year of the contract with Huntsville to host the North Super Regional event,” AHSAA executive director Heath Harmon said in a release. “Our staff immediately reached out to Huntsville to extend the contract for one more year. Unfortunately, but understandably, we were unable to work out an agreement. Thankfully, we were able to secure an agreement with the Finley Center to host this year’s event.”
The North Super Regional volleyball tournament was held in Huntsville at the Von Braun Center since 2014, which was the beginning of the super regional format.
Montgomery’s Multi-Plex Arena at the Cramton Bowl will still host the AHSAA South Super Regional, with the state championships to be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex from Oct. 29-31.
“We appreciate the City of Huntsville, the Huntsville Sports Commission and the Von Braun Center for hosting the North Super Regional Volleyball Championships for the last 10 years,” Harmon said. “We are looking forward to returning to Huntsville for the 2025 State Wrestling Championships, 2025 State Soccer Championships and the State Swimming Championships in 2024.
“We are also excited to be moving to the Finley Center in Hoover for the North Super Regional Volleyball Championships this fall. We are appreciative for all our cities and communities across the state who step forward each year to host our various AHSAA championship programs.”
