Collin Farrell has taken the superhero scene by storm with The Penguin. A show that boasts brilliantly crafted characters that have some of the most intense arcs in superhero fiction, it seems to be obvious that fans want more of the great show. However, they seem to be in agreement with what the showrunner has to say about its renewal.
The first season of The Penguin has seen a lot of twists and turns, and fans believe, that ahead of the finale, The Penguin might not need another season to tell his story. Given that the character first functioned as a background character in The Batman, there might be a possibility that there is actually more to come just beyond the season finale.
Will The Penguin wrap up its story in the season finale of his show?
The Penguin Season 2 seems pretty unlikely, despite the value that the show has brought for the DC and WB brands. The showrunner helming the project, Lauren LeFranc, revealed what exactly would be the circumstance under which a second season would be green-lit, speaking to The Direct. She said:
I mean, we put it all out on the table. I think that in order to do a second season, we have to feel like we can top ourselves. We have to feel like there’s something more there to really dig into. I mean, I really care about all these characters, even if they’re terrible people.
The idea behind holding off a second season for now, comes from the fact that there needs to be a credible story to pursue. It is often the case that franchisees develop spin-offs and stories for characters that have little to nothing to add to the larger story, but only serve as placeholder content to keep audiences engaged, or keep the IP in the public conscious
What can fans expect of The Penguin Season finale?
There has been a lot of speculation about what The Penguin has in store for its finale. With Oswald’s operation seemingly crippled, Victor still AWOL, and the play of the rest of the crime families up in the air, it seems that the show is heading towards a rather exciting finale.
There is also the fact that people are keen to see which character from The Batman will make a cameo in the show. There are a lot of fans who believe that the Dark Knight himself might show up in the show, but it is much more possible that side characters like Jim Gordon or Catwoman will make an appearance in the story, rather than The Dark Knight himself.
However, if The Penguin is being set up as the main antagonist for The Batman Part II, it could cause the character to cameo at the tale end of the finale, once the story is done and all the major plot points are resolved.
