A Connecticut man already facing charges in sexual assaults in two different cities was to be charged Thursday in connection with accusations he lured a young girl into a vehicle and sexually assaulted her.
Michael Dewitt, 45, of Seymour was scheduled to be charged during an appearance in Waterbury Superior Court after investigators obtained another warrant for his arrest, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.
Bessette said the police department’s Special Victim Unit began investigating a complaint against Dewitt on Oct. 15. The victim alleged that she was walking home on Sept. 28 when she was lured into a vehicle and sexually assaulted.
Bessette said authorities were able to identify Dewitt as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest on Oct. 25 on charges of first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and commercial sexual abuse of a minor.
Dewitt has been in custody since Oct. 12 when he was arrested by members of the New Haven Police Department on sexual assault charges. In that case, a detective in April began investigating accusations that date back about 10 years when the victim was a minor, according to police.
Four days after that arrest, Dewitt was also charged by Waterbury investigators in connection with an incident reported on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., when officers responded to the 400 block of Cooke Street near Fulton Park on the report of an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault involving a minor. According to Bessette, the girl earlier in the evening was allegedly lured into a pickup truck and sexually assaulted.
The victim in that case was not the same minor as the one tied to the allegations in September, Bessette said.
Dewitt has been held in lieu of bonds totaling $550,000. The warrant he was scheduled to be served with on Thursday had a court set bond of $750,000 tied to it.
