Ex-Alba Party leader Mr Salmond died suddenly from a heart attack last month while attending a conference in North Macedonia.

Senior Scottish Government figures, including First Minister John Swinney, are expected to attend the event on November 30, as well as representatives from all of the main parties at Holyrood.

Consular representatives from overseas will also be invited, along with business leaders such as Sir Tom Hunter who paid for the flight which brought Mr Salmond’s body back to the UK.

However, it’s understood Nicola Sturgeon, former FM and previous close friend of Mr Salmond, will not attend.

Mr Salmond was laid to rest following a private funeral near his Aberdeenshire home on October 29.

A family spokesman said: “Friends of Alex who knew and worked with him for many years are providing support at the family’s request in helping to organise a fitting memorial service for the former first minister.

“It will be an occasion for people to say farewell to Alex and reflect on his life and achievements.”
