The woman at the center of these claims is Nikita Ni Laimhin, who is also known as Nikita Hand, a 35-year-old hairdresser from Drimnagh, Dublin (via Daily Mail).
It all began one fateful night in December 2018. Hand was out with colleagues, enjoying the typical revelry of a night out. After a few drinks and substances, she reached out to McGregor, whom she had known for years through mutual friends (see BBC). According to Hand’s account in court, McGregor invited her and a friend to join him at the Beacon Hotel.
She claims that McGregor, after picking them up in his car and escorting them to a penthouse suite, became aggressive. Despite verbally expressing that she wasn’t interested in s*x—and making it clear she was not there for that purpose—McGregor allegedly pinned her down, placing her in a chokehold.
What followed, according to Hand, was a violent and traumatic assault. She described being overwhelmed by fear, constantly thinking of her daughter, and fighting back in any way she could.
In the aftermath, Hand says she woke up in a state of panic (via BBC). In the days that followed, she sought help from the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and confided in her friends and mother about what had happened.
However, pursuing legal action wasn’t smooth. Hand’s path was complicated by the statements made by McGregor’s co-defendant, James Lawrence, which didn’t align with her account of the night’s events (see RTE).

The footage, taken from a lift in the hotel on the night of the alleged assault, shows Hand with McGregor and Lawrence, at one point appearing to kiss McGregor’s arm and even hug him. Farrell quickly seized on this, suggesting that the footage contradicted Hand’s account of being assaulted and left her in a state of fear for her life. She said:
That CCTV footage doesn’t take away from what happened to me in that room with Conor. I know what happened. I was brutally r*ped and battered.
Her distress was palpable in the courtroom as she described the footage as “very hard to watch,” telling the court:
It’s me, but it’s not my character. It’s very disturbing for me.
As tears welled in her eyes, she explained that the footage didn’t change her version of events, no matter how unsettling it was to relive that night. “You can see how vulnerable I am,” she added. The emotional toll of the cross-examination was evident.
She admitted to deleting text messages from the night but explained she did so because “I was afraid for my life.”
Farrell continued his line of questioning, also pointing out that a phone call had been made from Hand’s phone to McGregor shortly before 6:30 pm on the day of the alleged assault. The former asked why someone who claims to have been assaulted would want to “have a chat” with the man she accused.
Hand, still struggling with the emotions of the moment, responded that she had no recollection of making the call nor any clear explanation for why it had happened.
