Despite his feats as an exemplary director Hayao Miyazaki has some conservative views. It is because of this very trait that the internet has deemed him a grumpy grandpa.
This is evident in his views regarding artificial intelligence along with anime. That is not all, considering his adherence to traditional methods of storytelling and animation. However, we have barely scratched the surface when it comes to his hate for certain media.
The most popular instance of his hate toward technology is a popular clip on YouTube. Miyazaki is seen scorning his team for their insensitive approach to disability. This, however, isn’t the first time he expressed his disdain over the medium.
Time and time again he has opened up about the crippling dependency of animators on artificial intelligence. With technology obliterating creativity, his vision has urged several artists to speak up. However, this is not the end of it as he criticized yet another show.
Miyazaki associated Ultraman with kids’ failure as citizens of society. An excerpt from Graph Mitaka shared by CBR revealed his opinion regarding the show. He quoted:
Parents have failed… and today we see, increasingly, that [their kids] don’t have a clue what to do. Among friends in my forties, several are of the Ultraman generation, and this problem seems to have become increasingly common among them.
Miyazaki is a true revolutionary in most aspects but especially his views on art and society. As a stalwart in the Japanese animation industry, he continues to influence several artists.
While his views on Ultraman are controversial, this isn’t the first time he harbored hate for a medium. Many a time, the Ghibli Director expressed his rage toward the new-age anime.

Several fans have criticized his outlook on the internet, citing him as a grumpy grandpa. For his staunch opinions and worldview, the Ghibli Director may have judged the medium too soon. All of it seems strange considering the director paved the way for the Japanese Industry, but there’s a catch to that.
Series like Naruto and One Piece have consistently shaped the course of the anime industry. Unlike new-age anime, the series are praised for their art and thought-provoking concepts.
While Miyazaki expressed his disdain for the modern age series, there are exceptions. He seemed to have a soft spot for top-notch series like Demon Slayer. To be acknowledged by the legend himself is a great feat in itself though there is a caveat to this.
