HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — In October the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) issued a Fire Danger Advisory due to the extremely dry and abnormal conditions.
With the recent rainfall, cooler temperatures in the forecast, and high humidity the AFC has lifted the statewide Fire Danger Advisory. The improving conditions have significantly lowered the threat of wildfires.
While the advisory has been lifted, the majority of the state is continuing to experience underlying drought conditions. With drought conditions still present the AFC will closely monitor the wildfire threat and will reissue an advisory if needed.
The agency urges anyone conducting outdoor burning to follow safety recommendations such as not leaving a fire unattended until it is out (cold to the touch), having the necessary equipment/personnel to control the fire, and having a garden hose or other water supply on hand for smaller debris burns.
To report a wildfire, call (800) 392-5679. For more information on the current wildfire situation in the state or any other forestry-related issues, visit the agency website. at www.forestry.alabama.gov.
