With only a few episodes under its belt, Dragon Ball DAIMA has managed to become one of the best anime series of 2024. The unique narrative with some nostalgic aspects makes it a perfect combination that fans have been appreciating. The series is in fact deemed by many to be better than the most controversial storylines of the franchise, Dragon Ball GT.
Fans might have noticed that Dragon Ball DAIMA and Dragon Ball GT share a lot of similarities, with the most important one being the mini version of Goku. Just like in Dragon Ball GT, Goku also becomes small in Dragon Ball DAIMA and tries to find a way to get back to his original form while also defeating all the obstacles in his way.
However, as DAIMA has been progressing, there is a chance that it may steal the thunder from Dragon Ball GT completely. And to do that, Dragon Ball DAIMA needs to nail the Super Saiyan transformation of Goku in his small form.
The Similarities Between Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball DAIMA
Dragon Ball DAIMA was the last project Akira Toriyama worked on. Therefore, it had sentimental value, and fans had a lot of hopes for it. And the series lived up to these hopes and produced a compelling storyline that shared a lot of parallels with Dragon Ball GT, which initially created doubt in the minds of fans. The first and foremost was Goku turning into a mini version and dealing with his opponents.
The second similarity was the return of the power pole, which was an iconic weapon used by Goku from the first Dragon Ball series. Even the flying nimbus is a part of both GT and DAIMA, but it’s not given much importance. Irrespective of that, these similarities created a lot of discourse within the fanbase.
When fans first saw the teaser trailer for Dragon Ball DAIMA, they were a little disappointed because of the parallels that made it look like Dragon Ball GT. Dragon Ball GT is one of the most hated series in the entire Dragon Ball franchise, and DAIMA using similar concepts led fans to believe that the series might fail just like GT.
Dragon Ball DAIMA Might Blow Past Dragon Ball GT
Although Dragon Ball DAIMA has already become a successful series, it still has one more trick up its sleeve that can make it blow past Dragon Ball GT. This trick is the iconic Super Saiyan transformation of Goku, especially in his mini version. While GT was criticized a lot, the one thing it did well was portraying the Super Saiyan transformation of Kid Goku.
As of now, Goku has not yet used his Super Saiyan transformation in Dragon Ball DAIMA, but it is predicted that he might use it in episode 5.

If the DAIMA series manages to hit a bullseye with Mini Goku’s Super Saiyan transformation, it will automatically become bigger than Dragon Ball GT ever was.
It all depends on how Toei Animation handles the scene where Goku finally unlocks his Super Saiyan transformation as a kid. Fans will have to wait and find out after the release of Dragon Ball DAIMA episode 5.
