Youngstown Playhouse honors 3 men integral to its 100-year history

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Youngstown Playhouse continues to celebrate 100 years by honoring three influential figures who kept the institution alive.

A plaque dedicated to Arthur Sircom, James Cameron and Bentley Lenhoff now sits in the Playhouse lobby.

All three men brought leadership to the Playhouse at different times in its 100-year history. Without them, current Playhouse leadership says the Glenwood Avenue icon would not be in operation today.

“Arthur Sircom was the first one that really got the Playhouse up to a national recognition, and James Cameron and Bentley Lenhoff built on that and have sustained that reputation,” said John Ballantyne, archivist for the Youngstown Playhouse.

“That’s something we take pride in, to be able to keep their dreams and their vision going, and what the Playhouse was to them, we hope it still is to the community,” said Dr. John Cox, Youngstown Playhouse Board president.

Lenhoff’s wife and daughter were also at the dedication.

The dedication serves as a launching point to honor other notable figures in the theater’s history.
