SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – Demolition crews in Salem have finished tearing down a building that partially collapsed on Sunday.
Christopher Sell owns Heggy’s Confectionary in downtown Salem. On Sunday, a building next door partially collapsed, damaging the freezer and walk-in cooler in his business.
Heggy’s has been closed since the collapse even though the structure next door was torn down.
“It’s been really hectic,” Sell said. “Our freezer and cooler unit were crushed. We’ve since demo’d that. We’ve got another one on order, but we’ve got about a five-week lead time on that plus the time it takes to install.”
By Friday, construction crews were shoring up the outside of the store while staff inside was hard at work preparing to reopen.
“Everyone has been very curious, hoping that we’re going to get back up and running. And I’m determined to get us up and running as soon as possible,” Sell said.
Sell plans to reopen Saturday for countertop candy sales. And with temporary freezers on the way, they’re hoping the restaurant is back in business by Monday.
After being closed for nearly a week, they’re anxious to greet customers who have been patiently waiting.
“Small town business like this. everyone gathers up behind you. It’s a good thing. That’s what it’s all about right?” Sell said.
