Franklin County Sheriff's Office warns of scams pretending to be law enforcement

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) is warning residents of a scam involving people pretending to work for law enforcement.

FCSO said it has learned of a scam where someone is calling residents and pretending to work for the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office said the scammers say the recipient of the call has a warrant or owes money for a “civil violation,” and that they need to pay money or be arrested.

According to authorities, the sheriff’s office said they heard of several types of these calls beginning Saturday morning.

Authorities are warning that these calls are a scam.

“We want to remind the public that no one from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office will ever contact anyone to tell them that they have a warrant and must pay to have it resolved,” The sheriff’s office said. “Please, do not give these people any banking information or send them money in any way.”

FCSO said if you receive one of these calls and want to report it to call the sheriff’s office at 256-332-8820.
