(WHNT) — The Crimson Tide climbed back into the Top 10 in this week’s AP Poll after a strong win against the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge, but the Georgia Bulldogs didn’t have the same fortune on the road.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe had a career night in Tiger Stadium. He rushed for a personal best 185 yards on Saturday night, with four rushing touchdowns to help lead Alabama to a 42-13 win over LSU.
The Tigers have had trouble containing the Tide QB, as Milroe’s previous single-game best in rushing yards came when the LSU Tigers came to Tuscaloosa in 2023.
Alabama Head Coach Kalen DeBoer praised Milroe’s rushing ability following the game.
“He’s got a superpower when it comes to running the football,” DeBoer said. “He’s not just a guy that gets first downs. He gets into the end zone. What he was able to do early on really got the ball rolling.”
But Milroe’s legs weren’t the only problem LSU faced on Saturday, as quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw two interceptions – making six turnovers for the
The Crimson Tide will take on Mercer at home on Saturday, November 16, with kick-off set for 1 p.m.
The Auburn Tigers had a bye this week, but the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks come to town Saturday. That game is set to kick off at 11:45 a.m. at Jordan Hare Stadium.
In other news around the SEC, fans of the Ole Miss Rebels stormed the field – twice – after upsetting the no. 2 Georgia Bulldogs at home, 28-10. Ole Miss quarterback Jaxon Dart helped lead the team to victory, completing 13-of-22 pass attempts for 199 yards with an interception and rushing for 50 yards.
The Rebels’ recent win streak, including this win over the recent college football powerhouse, gives Ole Miss serious chances at a playoff spot and for now, a spot in the AP Top 10.
The Bulldogs fall to no. 11 with their second loss of the season.
Georgia will host No. 7 Tennessee next Saturday, while the Rebels will travel to Florida to take on the Gators.
The Tennessee Volunteers also moved up in the rankings this week to no. 6 following a 33-14 win over Mississippi State. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava left the game in the second quarter with an upper-body injury and did not return, but that didn’t bring the Vols down.
Running back Dylan Sampson helped take over things on offense following Iamaleava’s exit, and ended up rushing for a career-high 149 yards and 1 touchdown.
Coach Josh Heupel said he anticipates Iamaleava will be back and ready to play against UGA next week.
Moving a little farther west in the Volunteer State, the Vanderbilt Commodores ran into trouble on Saturday when they took on the unranked South Carolina Gamecocks.
South Carolina won the game 28-7 – their second victory in a row over an AP Top 25 opponent.
With that win, South Carolina climbs their way into the AP rankings at no. 24. On the opposite side of the field, the loss pushes Vandy back out of the rankings.
