Wolves transfer news: Rennes defender on radar ahead of January window?

Wolverhampton Wanderers alleged hold an interest in signing a Rennes defender during the January transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have allegedly identified Rennes defender Christopher Wooh as a potential January transfer target.

The West Midlands outfit entered the November international break having put together a much-needed three-match unbeaten run.

Nevertheless, Gary O’Neil‘s side remain in 19th position in the Premier League table having kept just one clean sheet in the top flight all season.

O’Neil’s efforts to help move Wolves outside of the relegation zone have not been helped by key centre-back Yerson Mosquera being ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a serious knee injury.

That has left O’Neil relying on the likes of Craig Dawson, Toti Gomes and Santiago Bueno to try to keep Wolves competitive until the turn of the year when the plan is to acquire the services of an alternative.

Wolves to move for Wooh?

According to Football Insider, Wolves are interested in trying to negotiate a deal for Wooh at the midway point of the campaign.

The 23-year-old has made 10 starts for an inconsistent Rennes side in Ligue 1 during 2024-25, his side conceding 18 goals in 11 matches.

Nevertheless, the Cameroon international is viewed as a key figure at the club with 47 appearances having now been racked up in all competitions.

His status may hinder any attempts by Wolves to acquire his signature, yet Rennes will have to take into consideration that Wooh’s contract is due to expire in 2026.

More business with Ligue 1?

Wolves are no strangers to negotiating transfers with French clubs, most recently when signing fellow centre-back Bastien Meupiyou from Nantes in the summer.

As it stands, though, the 18-year-old is yet to represent Wolves at any level due to injury, missing out on a chance to stake his claim in the senior ranks.

There are four players in the squad – Rayan Ait-Nouri, Mario Lemina, Boubacar Traore and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – who have all been signed from French sides.

In some cases, Wolves agreed loan deals with obligations to buy, and that is a scenario that could be proposed should they pursue Wooh.
