Man United transfer news: Amorim ‘preparing to offload’ struggling attacker in January after identifying replacement

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly willing to offload one of the club’s attackers when the transfer window opens in January.

New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly prepared to sanction Antony‘s departure in the January transfer window.

Amorim recently took over the reins at Man United after leaving his role as Sporting Lisbon boss to succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

The 39-year-old’s appointment has led to speculation that some members of the current squad could be moved on in 2025.

Casemiro has allegedly been made available for a January transfer, while there is also uncertainty surrounding the future of summer Joshua Zirkzee following a difficult start to life in the Premier League.

Amorim ready to offload Antony in January

According to the Daily Star, Amorim is also preparing to offload Antony when the transfer window opens in the new year.

The Red Devils are open to selling Antony to the ‘highest bidder’, while are also willing to entertain a potential loan departure.

The report claims that Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to get Antony’s £200,000-a-week earnings off the club’s wage bill.

Man United are said to view Geovany Quenda as a potential replacement for Antony after it was recently revealed they were interested in pursuing a January move for the Sporting Lisbon youngster.

Why are Man United willing to offload Antony?

Man United had high expectations after they paid £81.3m to sign the Brazilian winger from Ajax in the summer of 2022.

Antony registered 24 goals and 22 assists in 82 appearances for the Dutch giants, but he has failed to match those numbers during his time at Old Trafford.

The former Sao Paulo attacker has mustered just 12 goals and five assists in his 87 competitive matches for the Red Devils.

Antony has also struggled for playing time during the current campaign, having featured in just five games in all competitions, with four of those appearances coming from the bench.

Ten Hag ultimately played a key role in bringing Antony to Man United after the pair previously enjoyed success at Ajax, but the change of manager has led the club to deem the 24-year-old surplus to requirements.
