HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Hospital said Monday it is on the brink of finalizing a new contract with United Healthcare, but the deal is not officially signed.
This update comes after both parties agreed to a short-term extension to ensure united-insured patients would remain in the hospital’s network. Here’s what we’ve learned.
Huntsville Hospital provided a statement on Monday.
“We have agreed in principle on all of the terms of our new contract with United Healthcare. It is a matter of finalizing the documents, which is why we extended it for one week. We anticipate that they will be signed by both parties on Thursday or Friday of this week.”
The current extension, which runs through November 21 according to United Healthcare, ensures that members in key plans, including employer-sponsored commercial plans, medicare advantage, and individual family plans, maintain in-network access to Huntsville Hospital facilities.
Both Huntsville Hospital and the insurance company said they are working to finalize an agreement quickly. Patients are encouraged to stay in contact with their providers for updates on their specific coverage.
Local patients have been watching these negotiations closely.
News 19 also reached out to United Healthcare for comment, but the company did not respond.
