LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said several agencies worked together Sunday to rescue an injured hiker in the Bankhead National Forest.

LCSO said the hiker was injured while hiking near Thompson Creek Trail Head about three miles into the forest on Sunday.

The sheriff’s office said the hiker received medical care and was stabilized by a deputy before being evacuated by an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) helicopter.

LCSO said the Lawrence County Rescue Squad, Mt. Hope Fire, Hatton Fire, Courtland Fire, Greg’s Ambulance Service and the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office all assisted in the rescue operations.
