STEVE CLARKE had plenty of big decisions to make this week and sections of the Tartan Army weren’t slow in saying if they thought he got them wrong.
But after securing two wins from these final two Nations League matches, his son John wasted no time in telling the doubters he’d proved THEM wrong.
After a dramatic 1-0 win over Croatia at Hampden on Friday, Scotland followed it up with an even more thrilling win against Poland tonight.
Captain Andy Robertson powered home a late header to stun the home side and keep the national team’s hopes of staying in League A for another season alive.
Scotland will now enter a two-legged play-off in March with a runner-up from one of the groups in League B, with status in League A at stake.
Over the course of the last few days, Clarke had to weigh up whether to keep pre-Euros talisman John McGinn on the bench and if young Ben Doak would be able to start both games.

McGinn was used as a super sub to brilliant effect on Friday and returned to the starting XI in Warsaw, whilst Doak was man of the match at Hampden and was again a threat here tonight.
Keeping faith in John Souttar also proved beneficial, with the Rangers defender rock solid at the PGE Narodowy.
Before and during the game though, you could find examples of Scotland fans moaning on social media about the team and the manager.
In particular, some fans were peeved to see Doak among the first to be subbed off.
Come full-time, John Clarke posted a stout defence of his dad on Twitter (X).
He said: “Scotland still the b*******. The old man just does not stop proving p***** wrong.”
He later added in a separate post: “It’s hard sometimes reading the opinions of people who just don’t get it.
“Football really isn’t as simple you think.
“Tonight shows this Scotland team are fighting to be the best they can. Improving all the time.
“Are Scotland the best team ever? No.
“They are the b******* though.”
