NEW LONDON, Ohio (WJW) — The New London Police Department has identified the suspected gunman and a potential motive in a deadly shooting at an assisted living facility.
According to the New London Police Department, the shooting took place at the Windy Acres senior living retirement facility on Friday, November 8, just after 10:50 a.m.
Police say Roger Murray, 70, shot two employees and then turned the gun on himself and took his own life.
“Murray, a resident of the complex had filed multiple repair requests for his apartment and felt his requests were not being adequately met,” police said in a press release. “He was further distraught over the matter due to a pending site inspection.”
When responding officers arrived, they found two injured victims locked in the main office, according to a press release from New London police.
The two victims were able to exit through a window, police said, and were taken to area hospitals.
The victims, a 52-year-old office manager and a 56-year-old maintenance worker, have both been released from the hospital and are resting at their homes, according to police.
Police say the 52-year-old was shot in the torso. The maintenance worker had an injury to the head.
When addressing the media on Friday, New London Chief of Police Joe Hicks wanted to make sure residents know this was an isolated incident.
“What I do want the community to know is everybody in our community is safe. This incident has no bearing on our safety in New London,” Hicks said.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations is helping process evidence.
The shooting remains under investigation.
