Scooter driver seriously injured after hitting mailbox in Lisbon

A man was seriously injured on Monday when the scooter he was driving left Route 12 in Lisbon and struck a mailbox.

The crash was reported around 3:15 p.m. in the area of 214 River Road, where a 60-year-old New London man was driving a 50cc scooter north before leaving the right side of the road, according to Connecticut State Police.

The man struck a mailbox belonging to a residence and was thrown from the moped, suffering serious injuries, state police said. He was taken to Backus Hospital in Norwich.

Any witnesses to the crash or individuals with information have been asked to contact Trooper Timothy Wengloski at 860-848-6500.
