Celtic-daft pundit addresses Brendan Rodgers’ future amid exit rumours as he reveals he’s received text he can’t believe

BRENDAN RODGERS has won over Celtic fans’ hearts again after being slaughtered by punters for years after his controversial exit from Parkhead in 2019.

The Celtic manager is now reclaiming his legacy in Glasgow and supporters are quickly forgetting about his shock move to Leicester City last time around.

But will history repeat itself and could he jump ship early again like he did five years ago?

Well, the Northern Irishman has been tipped with a return to the Premier League with various clubs ever since taking back over at Celtic for a second time.

He was one of the favourites to replace Eddie Howe in the Newcastle hot-seat last December when pressure was beginning to mount on the one-time Hoops target.

He was also heavily linked with the West Ham job after David Moyes exit and before Julen Lopetegui was appointed.

Now he is said to be in the frame for the Hammers position once again.

That’s according to Celtic-daft radio pundit Alan Brazil – who claims Rodgers could be on West Ham‘s radar after he received a shock text from a friend hinting the boss is on their shortlist.

But the 65-year-old instantly cooled his own rumour as he suggested his pal could just be winding him up.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Brazil said: “Someone sent me a text last night saying Brendan (Rodgers) for West Ham… What? Brendan Rodgers? He can’t leave, not with how Celtic are playing.”

Fellow pundit Gabby Agbonlahor is not convinced there is any truth to the links – because he can’t see the manager going anywhere at this moment in time.

He replied: “Not with how Celtic are playing in the Champions League. They have a chance of reaching the play-offs so he’s going nowhere.

“I don’t think they’ll sack Lopetegui yet though. I think they’ll give him more time.”

Brazil added: “I don’t know if it’s just my mate winding me up because he is a Celtic fan or he’s heard something.”

Rodgers is well versed in the English top flight having spent several years in the league with three different clubs – Swansea City, Liverpool and Leicester.

When the gaffer signed a three-year deal to return to Celtic, he said he would see out his contract in Glasgow – at the very least.

And he insisted he would never be lured away by the star-studded cash-rich EPL again.

He said: “If I look at it I have managed three Premier League clubs.

“Some people never get the chance to manage one.

“So I know now coming out of the Premier League, if I never go back there in my life I’ve had a good run.

“For me there is not that feeling. The challenge was there of the Premier League and I left for that.

“The challenge was top-class players, different systems, top-level managers.

“But I did that with Swansea, and Liverpool and Leicester, and there’s only so many jobs you want to do.

“So my feeling was to come back to Celtic, and this is where I am really happy.

“The mindset changes slightly in terms of you know the landscape, and you have a better feel for it.

“You understand the model of the club better.

“It’s not an acceptance. It’s just you find other ways to help the club progress.”
