HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Salvation Army’s annual Angel Tree campaign has returned — and the need is greater now than ever.
The Angel Tree is the organization’s largest campaign and aids over 1,800 families and seniors who are in crisis in the local area. Salvation Army provides gifts and clothes as well as Christmas breakfast and dinner.
“Huntsville has always been the most generous this time of year in giving gifts so that children within our community can have a magical Christmas,” says Major Joe May, Officer of The Salvation Army of Huntsville. “We are asking everyone to consider adopting an angel this year so that no child in need gets left out.”
Many families rely on assistance from the Salvation Army as they decide whether to pay rent or utilities or to give their kids a Christmas.
“We are seeing an increase in the demand for assistance this year,” Major May said. “It’s clear that many in our area are still in need.”
For those who have never participated in the Angel Tree, the steps are simple. After a person is registered as an Angel, their wish list is shared with donors, who will purchase the items on the list. Once the adopter has purchased the gift, they will take it to the Salvation Army along with the tag.
From there, Salvation Army staff and volunteers will sort and distribute the gifts. Angels will receive their gifts the week before Christmas.
