A Jamaican national was sentenced to almost three years in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported.
Jason Caston Williams, also known as Jason Fitzgerald and Terry Barrington Stewart, 51, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams in Hartford to 30 months in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Williams was admitted to the U.S. as a Lawful Permanent Resident in October 1982. In June 1991, he was convicted in second-degree robbery in Connecticut and received a 10-year sentence, execution suspended, and five years of probation, court records show. He then violated his probation and was sentenced to three years in prison in March 1997, according to court records.
In September 1997, Williams was convicted of second-degree burglary and criminal possession of a weapon in New York and received a sentence of 30 months to five years in prison, court records show.
After an immigration judge ordered Williams removed in May 2001, he was deported to Jamaica.
According to federal officials, Williams “unlawfully returned to the U.S.” and, on Oct. 20, 2022, was arrested by the Norwalk Police Department on charges of second-degree assault after he reportedly used of a knife to assault another individual. He was convicted on Oct. 11, 2023 and sentenced to five years in prison, suspended after two years, and three years of probation, court records show.
On Sept. 11, Williams pleaded guilty to illegal reentry. He has completed his state sentence and is now in federal custody, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
